Do you have a leaking shower pan? Is it causing water damage in the walls or ceilings? Is your tile crumbling and grout cracking?
Sounds like you need a shower pan repair.
Shower Pan Repair or Replace
I have some bad news for you, if your shower pan is leaking there is little chance of repair.
The problem comes from the liner under the shower pan. If water is making it past this liner, then the entire shower pan needs to be removed to replace the liner beneath.
New Shower Pan Liner
The shower pan liner is a sheet of pvc that is beneath the concrete of the pan. These usually do not fail with age. It should last forever unless there are defects in the installation.
On the other hand, older showers may have a lead lined shower liner which can fail with age.
Either way, the entire pan needs to be replaced.
How Much to Replace a Shower Pan
The average cost to replace a shower pan is about $750 and this includes removal of the old pan, a new drain assembly and a new liner and curbing.
How Long Does It Take To Replace a Shower Pan?
It typically takes 2 days to remove a shower pan, apply a pre-slope and liner and form the pan with a waterproof membrane on top.
